General Election Information

CITY ELECTIONS
The residents of La Habra are represented by a five-member City Council. The members of the City Council are elected on an at-large basis to four-year terms. There are no term limits. La Habra General Municipal Elections are held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November of even-numbered years and coincide with the Statewide General Election. Each year, the members of the City Council choose one member to serve as Mayor and one member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor and the City Council are non-partisan.

Individuals who are interested in seeking election to the City Council must be residents and registered voters of the City of La Habra at the time nomination papers are issued (residents of the unincorporated county territories are not eligible to run for municipal office). The period for the filing of nomination documents by candidates in elections consolidated with the regularly scheduled election shall commence on the 113th day prior to the election. The nomination documents shall be filed not later than 5:00 p.m. on the 88th day prior to the regularly scheduled election in the office of the City Clerk, during regular office hours. If nomination documents for an incumbent officer of a political subdivision are not filed by 5:00 p.m. on the 88th day before the election, any person other than the person who was the incumbent on the 88th day shall have until 5:00 p.m. on the 83rd day before the election to file nomination documents for the elective office.
