The City of La Habra Social Services Division began its annual Operation Santa Program in 1990. Every year, it provides a special holiday season to underprivileged children and their families. Names of families who would most benefit from the program are provided by the school districts that serve the City, as well as by the City's own Child Development Department. Donations of food, toys and items for youth ages four to 14 years old are collected in October and November, and on the Saturday before Christmas, families are invited to the Community Center to receive their gifts, enjoy a visit with Santa, and other fun family activities. In 2016, Operation Santa served 800 families with 1,300 children.
We are currently getting ready to begin collecting items for the 2017 Operation Santa program, which will be distributed on Saturday, December 16th. You can support this program by donating non-perishable food items and toys, or by donating gift cards from Target or Walmart (these are used to purchase items for older children) or from grocery stores. Another way to help is by sponsoring a family.
